Frequently Asked Questions
about ArrowWeb Dedicated Servers
Q: How does 40GB/s transfer
per month compare to my
current website traffic?
A: The best way to find out how much your website transfers currently is to look in your
log files (if you have log files). If you have an ArrowWeb
account you can look on the
log report for the following line...
Average data transferred per
day: 137 563 kbytes
That would be about 138 MBs per day. Multiply this by 30 days and you get about 4 GB of
transfer/month. This
does not include your e-mail and ftp transfer, but for almost
all accounts those numbers are negligible.
Q: Can I sell cheap accounts
with 5 megs, medium with 50
and monster with 100+?
You can create whatever account
types you like by allocating storage
and server
features to certain
accounts.
Q: Can I easily limit individual user's storage or track (or limit) their bandwidth
usage?
Yes, you can do both of these things.
Q: Are usage stats available to customers on their own account
or just to me as the
admin?
Your customers can have access to
their own stats just for their site.
Q: How big are their mailboxes?
I can really have unlimited
boxes per
account? Not just aliases?
A: To setup a mailbox, you basically setup a new user under one of your accounts. You
can then allocate a certain amount of storage to that
user from the total allocated to
that
domain. You can add as many as you want.
Q: Do I get regular backups? When? How hard is it to access these if needed?
Currently, dedicated customers are responsible for keeping backups of
their own
data locally. This may
change in the future.
Q: What about security?
Hackers? Software/hardware crashes that aren't my fault?
The dedicated server platform we are using allows for easier updates to security
on the system so we are able
to maintain a very high degree of security. If you are
using a Managed plan then we will handle all the
security issues and do our best to
make sure it doesn't crash. If a crash occurs on Managed or UnManaged,
we will fix
the problem and alert you if the crash was the result of customer misuse of the
server. If crashes
continue to occur from misuse, then a fee will charged for
repairing the problem.
Q: What about parked domains? You can park as many domains as you like to any of your accounts at no
charge for
managed or unmanaged servers.
Q: How do I transfer my current ArrowWeb accounts over? What
if I pre-paid annually?
You will receive a credit for any
pre-paid accounts. If you choose a dedicated
server option that includes
an account setup fee, then that fee
will be applied for
each account that needs to be transferred minus any credit you
have.
Q: Can I start on Managed
Option 1 and switch to Option 2 later when we're bigger?
Yes, you can switch after 90 days of starting the account.
Q: What happens after 200 new accounts? Is that a storage limit or a maximum number
of domains it can handle?
The limitation is based on IP
addresses. When you setup a new account it gets a
unique IP and you
can park as many domains on that IP
as you want, but the server
doesn't handle more than 200 total
IPs. Another possibility is that when
you setup
a mailbox by creating a
user under
the account, it also
assigns that user a webpage
at http://<yourdomain>/~user. So if you wanted to, you could also sell
non-domain
accounts like this and
create as many as you need.
Q: What about domain registration?
Domain registration fees do still apply since they are paid entirely to the registrar.
Q: Is a contract required?
There is a 6 month requirement
